The Art Of Negotiation
Negotiation as a scientific definition is a process of communication between two or more people in which they study alternatives to reach acceptable solutions or achieve satisfactory goals for them.
Foundations of Success in Negotiation: Your success as a negotiator depends on how wisely you use your negotiating knowledge, strength of character, and information, and your temper against any obstacle, knowing that threats and pretense are not the necessary tools you need.
Rather it should be:
- A good plan: It is necessary to focus on planning before the negotiation sessions, collecting the necessary information about the opponent, professional and methodical coordination among the members of the negotiating team, and playing roles in a mock negotiation session to gain efficiency, indicate weaknesses and strengths, make the necessary adjustments, and continuous training to reach the desired goals with high confidence and wise management
- Logically: It is hard to argue with facts.
Use the facts then to strengthen your position.
Avoid using arguments that contradict each other, or of unbelievable exaggerations, even if this is in minor details. This is because your credibility will be completely gone.
- Reasonable: Be reasonable in your approach. Arguing encourages the other party to argue in turn, and the end result is that reaching an agreement will become much more difficult.
- Persevere: Perseverance is necessary for success when your opponent tries to refute your arguments, or to move away from the subject of negotiation or to enter into a sterile argument
- Patient: The party that rushes to reach an agreement will be the party that will offer the most concessions. Do not give in easily if the negotiations are not going at the pace you want. Your opponent may be trying to tire you out, and this is one of the adopted strategies
If you are logical, reasonable, persistent, patient, and generally a good planner, then you are a good negotiator and you can take control and achieve the goals you negotiated for.
