Wellbeing in Schools:

Nurturing the Mind, Not Just the Mindset:

In today’s classrooms, education goes far beyond textbooks and tests. It includes open conversations about feelings, calming corners, and check-ins like, “How are you really feeling today?” Because learning simply doesn’t happen when children don’t feel okay.

Wellbeing isn’t a trend—it’s essential. And it means more than just mindset shifts. It’s about creating safe, supportive environments where every child feels seen, heard, and valued.

What Does It Look Like?

Wellbeing can be as simple as:

  • A teacher greeting each student by name

  • Five-minute journaling to clear the mind

  • “Feelings thermometers” and safe spaces to take breaks

  • Group circles for connection and empathy

These small daily practices build trust, resilience, and emotional intelligence—key foundations for both academic and life success.

The UAE’s Commitment

With initiatives like the KHDA Wellbeing Census and the National Strategy for Wellbeing 2031, the UAE is leading efforts to prioritize emotional health in education. Schools now actively embed wellness through mindfulness breaks, happiness initiatives, and dedicated wellbeing staff.

The Role of Families

Wellbeing doesn’t stop at the school gate. When teachers and parents work together—through routines, regular conversations, and emotional check-ins—children thrive.

It’s All About Balance

We often ask, “Are students achieving?” But we must also ask, “Are they happy? Do they feel like they belong?” Because in the end, it’s not just academic scores that matter—it’s self-worth, empathy, and a strong, healthy mind.

When children feel well, they learn well.
Let’s nurture their hearts as much as we nurture their minds.
