The five-finger strategy
The five-finger strategy is one of the fun and simple active learning strategies. It consists of five questions that students formulate using interrogative tools: who, when, what, why, how In its application, this strategy depends on the skills of reading, writing, reasoning, analysis and summarizing. 1-The teacher asks the students to draw the shape of the palm on a white sheet of paper, and to write the question marks (what – who – when – why – how) on each of the fingers of the hand
2-The teacher divides the students into five groups according to the number of fingers and asks each group to read the lesson, identify the main headings in it, formulate five questions about the lesson, and assign them a specific time to complete this task.
3- The teacher explains the lesson to the students, and he may show them a video or an audio clip, then ask them to answer the questions and then discuss them with them.
4- Students summarize the lesson with main ideas and write the summary on (the palm of the hand) by answering the five questions. Each group reads what has been summarized.
5- Finally, the teacher reconfirms the main ideas and answers the questions correctly, and then closes the lesson. The importance of this strategy stems from the fact that it is Eliminates students’ intellectual stagnation, adds fun and activity, and enhances teamwork and cooperation.
